لغة عربية واضحة، لا تبدو مترجمة.

Clear Arabic that doesn’t read like a translation.

I’m Hadeel Mahanna, a UX writer and content designer in Dubai. For seven years I’ve written the words people read on their way to getting something done: applying for a card, choosing an account, booking a room. Today that’s banking, as UX Copy Lead at Emirates NBD.

Emirates NBD Banking

Giving Arabic its own rulebook

Co-writing the Arabic edition of Emirates NBD’s UX Writing Style Guide, adapting each rule to how Arabic actually works instead of translating the English one.

Problem
Content standards across two languages

Emirates NBD Banking

Turning a translation deadline into a shared library

After translating a six-page journey into Arabic by hand, I proposed a shared English–Arabic UX writing library in Emirates NBD’s design system. With Figma AI mapping screens to it, translating a large journey could drop from about 8 hours to 1 hour of review.

Problem
Translating and keeping copy consistent at scale

Phase one launched

Emirates NBD Banking

A car loan application, step by step

UX writing and Arabic localization for Emirates NBD’s auto loan flow, a multi-step application where customers need to know where they are and what they’re agreeing to.

Problem
Multi-step application flow

El Gouna Hospitality

Finding the words that slowed guests down

Reading a mobile usability study of the elgouna.com booking flow for the problems caused by language, then localizing the site’s 1,045 strings across English, German and Arabic.

Problem
Content issues in a hotel booking flow
Stage

The Chedi El Gouna Hospitality

A room carousel guests can scan in seconds

I rewrote the homepage content for The Chedi El Gouna, a Red Sea resort, on desktop and mobile. Each room card now leads with what makes that room different, so guests can compare six room types at a glance.

Problem
Long, similar room descriptions that were hard to compare
Stage
Delivered for the homepage redesign

How I work

Find the question on the screen

Every screen answers something the person is asking, usually “what happens now?” I find that question first, then write the shortest answer that lets them act.

Write each language as itself

Arabic copy is drafted and reviewed in Arabic, with the terminology UAE banking uses, and checked in right-to-left layouts before it ships.

Leave rules behind

Style guides, shared copy libraries and patterns in the design system, so the next screen is consistent even when I’m not in the room.

Some decisions only exist in Arabic

Arabic has no capital letters, reads right to left, and often has several ways to say a banking term when only one is right. A translated guide can’t make those calls. A writer working in Arabic can.

About me

I studied English literature and translation, spent years writing websites and guides in English and Arabic, and now write product content for a bank. The thread through all of it: people read to get something done, and the words should help them do it.
